Text to Speech
Type text and hear it spoken aloud using your browser's built-in voices.
Key features
Type or paste text, pick a voice, and press Speak to hear it read aloud — adjust the rate, pitch, and volume to taste.
This uses your browser and operating system’s own built-in text-to-speech engine (the Web Speech API) — nothing is sent to a server, and available voices depend on your browser and OS.

Pick a voice and adjust settings
Choose from your browser’s available voices, and set the rate, pitch, and volume.

Frequently asked questions
Can I download the speech as an audio file?
Not from this tool — browsers don't provide a way for a webpage to capture its own synthesized speech as a downloadable audio stream, so there's no reliable way to offer that without routing it through a server (which would mean your text leaves your browser). This tool sticks to fully local playback instead.
Why don’t I see many voices, or any at all?
Available voices come entirely from your browser and operating system, not from this site — Chrome, Edge, and Safari usually ship several, while some Linux setups have very few installed by default. Installing more system voices (or trying a different browser) will add more to the list.
Why doesn’t Pause always stop the audio right away?
Pause and resume are handled by your browser and operating system’s speech engine, not by this page, and support is inconsistent — it works reliably on most Windows and macOS browsers, but some Linux speech engines don’t honor pause() correctly. If Pause doesn’t stop the audio, Stop will always work.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Speech is synthesized entirely on your device using the Web Speech API — nothing you type is transmitted.
