URL Encoder / Decoder

Encode or decode URLs and query string components.

Key features

Encode or decode instantly as you type
Component mode for query values, full-URL mode for whole links
One click to swap between encode and decode
100% private — computed locally, nothing is uploaded

Encode or decode text instantly — choose “Component” for a single query string value (escapes characters like &, ?, and =), or “Full URL” to encode special characters while leaving a URL’s structure intact.

Everything runs locally using your browser’s built-in URL encoding functions. Nothing you enter is uploaded or stored anywhere.

How to use

  1. Choose your options

Pick encode or decode, and component or full-URL mode.

  2. Paste your text

The result updates instantly in the output box.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between "Component" and "Full URL" mode?

Component mode (encodeURIComponent) escapes every special character, including &, ?, =, and /, which makes it correct for encoding a single value that will be placed inside a query string. Full URL mode (encodeURI) leaves those structural characters alone since encoding them would break an already-complete URL.

Why does decoding sometimes fail?

If the input contains a "%" that isn’t followed by two valid hex digits, it isn’t validly percent-encoded and can’t be decoded.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. Encoding and decoding both happen locally using your browser’s built-in URI functions — nothing is sent anywhere.
