Frequently asked questions

What is Base64 used for?

Base64 encodes binary or text data into a set of 64 printable ASCII characters, which makes it safe to embed in places that only accept plain text — like email attachments, data URIs, or JSON/XML fields — without special encoding.

Why does decoding sometimes fail?

Base64 has a strict alphabet and padding rules. If the input contains characters outside that set, or isn’t properly padded, it isn’t valid Base64 and can’t be decoded.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. Encoding and decoding both happen locally using your browser’s built-in Base64 functions — nothing is sent anywhere.
