Hash Generator
Compute MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, and SHA-512 hashes for text or a file.
Key features
Type or paste text, or choose a file, and its MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, and SHA-512 hashes appear instantly. This is handy for verifying a download’s checksum, generating a quick fingerprint for a piece of text, or checking that two files are byte-for-byte identical.
Everything is computed locally in your browser — text and files are never uploaded anywhere.
How to use
Choose text or a file
Switch between typing text directly or picking a file from your device.
Hashes appear instantly
All four algorithms compute automatically as you type or as soon as a file is selected.
Copy the one you need
Click the copy icon next to any hash to grab it — handy for comparing against a published checksum.
Frequently asked questions
Is my text or file uploaded anywhere?
No. Hashes are computed locally using your browser’s Web Crypto API (and a local MD5 implementation, since browsers don’t expose MD5 natively) — nothing leaves your device.
Why include MD5 if it’s considered insecure?
MD5 and SHA-1 are no longer considered secure for cryptographic purposes like password storage, but they’re still widely used for quick checksums and file-integrity checks, which is why they’re included alongside SHA-256 and SHA-512.
Is there a file size limit?
Files up to 100 MB are supported. Larger files are skipped since hashing them entirely in the browser can be slow.
