Key features
Paste or type text below to get a live count of words, characters, sentences, and paragraphs, along with an estimated reading time. It updates as you type, so it works just as well for trimming a tweet to length as it does for checking an essay against a word-count requirement.
The text you enter never leaves your device — there’s no upload, no account, and nothing is saved once you close the tab.
How to use

Write directly in the box, or paste text in from anywhere else.
Watch the stats update
Word, character, sentence, and paragraph counts update instantly as you type.
Copy or clear
Use "Copy text" to grab your text back out, or "Clear" to start over.
Frequently asked questions
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything is counted locally in your browser using JavaScript — the text never leaves your device.
How is reading time calculated?
It assumes an average adult reading speed of 200 words per minute and rounds up to the nearest minute.
How are sentences counted?
The tool counts groups of text ending in a period, question mark, or exclamation point, so it works for most everyday writing.
